Redirects

Manage URL redirects to guide visitors from old or alternative URLs to the correct destination.

URL redirects allow you to forward visitors from one URL path to another. This is useful when pages are renamed, restructured, or removed — ensuring that existing links and bookmarks continue to work.

Redirects are managed in My Site > Redirects by anyone with the "Create and edit site pages" permission.

How redirects work

When a visitor navigates to a redirected URL, the platform issues a 301 (Moved Permanently) response, which permanently redirects the browser to the target URL. This also signals to search engines that the content has moved, helping preserve SEO value.

Redirects can target:

  • Internal paths — e.g. /new-page-slug
  • External URLs — e.g. https://example.com/page

Redirect chaining

Redirects can be chained. If /old-page redirects to /middle-page, and /middle-page redirects to /new-page, a visitor navigating to /old-page will end up at /new-page.

Redirects to unpublished pages

Redirects can point to unpublished pages. In this case, visitors who are not logged in to the Easol platform will be redirected to a login page first.

Reserved URL paths

Redirects cannot be set up from URL paths that start with any of the following reserved prefixes:

PrefixPrefixPrefix
adminlog-inshop
blog-outshop-style
blog ¹psign-up
bookingsproducts ¹style
cartrobotst
checkoutscriptterms
common

¹ For blog and products, the restriction only applies when the slug is already taken. For example, /blog/april-12 cannot be redirected if /april-12 is an existing blog post.

Redirecting the homepage

The homepage cannot be redirected using the standard redirect interface. To redirect the homepage, follow these steps:

  1. Create a new blank page
  2. Add a custom Liquid/CSS block to the page
  3. Add the following code to the block:
---
redirect_link:
  type: link
  label: Page to redirect to
---

{% if redirect_link %}
  <script>
    const hostname = window.location.hostname
    if(!hostname.includes('myeasol')) {
      window.location.replace('{{ redirect_link.url }}')
    }
  </script>
{% endif %}
  1. Set the new page as the site homepage

The creator can then select the redirect destination via the redirect_link field in the site builder. The myeasol check ensures the redirect doesn't trigger when editing the site in the Easol admin.
