Creators set product prices in a single base currency. Easol automatically converts and displays prices in the customer's preferred currency using regularly updated exchange rates.

How the currency is selected

When a customer visits an Easol site, the platform determines which currency to use in the following order:

  1. Previously selected currency — If the customer has visited the site before and has a supported currency stored in a cookie, that currency is used.
  2. Location — Otherwise, Easol attempts to determine the preferred currency from the customer's IP address.
  3. Default currency — If no supported currency can be determined, Easol defaults to USD ($).

Once the currency has been selected, all prices displayed on the page are rendered using that currency and the current exchange rate.

If the customer selects a different currency using a currency switcher, their preference is stored in a cookie and the page is re-rendered using the newly selected currency.

Theme requirements

To provide the best customer experience, we recommend that every theme:

  • Includes at least one currency switcher on any page that displays prices.
  • Uses the provided price objects and formatting helpers to display prices.
  • Avoids hard-coded prices or manual currency calculations.

The default Easol themes include a currency switcher in the footer. The currency switcher can be rendered by calling {% currency_switcher %}.

Exchange rates are updated regularly but are not real-time market rates.
